Connecting Youth to the Creative Economy

And bringing an entrepreneurial spirit and new business perspective to the world of art!

AOB’s Pour Your ART Out (PYAO) is a creative workforce development program that transforms talented teens into Apprentice Artists. Selected through a rigorous application process, youth learn to consult with an array of clients to design projects, manage budgets, create and install professional mosaic and three-dimensional artwork, and evaluate the process of execution. They also master advanced art theory and application, teamwork, professionalism, and entrepreneurship while exploring otherwise unknown career paths and job opportunities. AOB Art Apprentices work in collaboration with clients, architects, engineers, landscape architects, communities, and in the case of MCDOT, transportation planners.

The exceptional quality of work produced by AOB Apprentices, led the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) to commission 13 mosaic medallions for the RideOnExtra service on Rockville Pike that were unveiled by the County Executive in October 2017. Based on this success, a larger commission has been awarded with final mosaics to be installed on US Route 29 between the Silver Spring Transit Center and the Burtonsville Park-and-Ride Center. The artwork beautifying each stop on the new “Flash” BRT service is scheduled for unveiling in early 2020.
