Creative Industries: Art Education
"I truly enjoy what I do."
Interview with Anjali
Check out this interview with Anjali, an art educator.
What inspired you to pursue this field or career path?
I always loved art and being creative in addition to wanting to work with kids. When I was in high school I realized my high school art teachers had the best job! They got to make art all day, work with kids, and had all the holidays off!
What are some highlights and challenges experienced during this pursuit from what you are doing so far?
Highlights are definitely how much I have been able to accomplish both as an artist and educator in my 9 years working in the field. In addition the relationships I have built with some of my students and their families are priceless! Some challenges have been nay-sayers. I was told to change careers in college and that no one would ever hire me to teach art- boy were they wrong! It can also be challenging to be constantly problem solving but at the end of the day I truly enjoy what I do.
What are some suggestions you have for someone else who might be interested in joining/ pursuing this career path?
Try it out! Get on the substitute list for your local county and try it out. Keep in mind being a sub is quite different but you will get the feel of working in a school and be able to make an informed decision about if it will work for you or not.
