Workshop Attendees will learn how to build, design, and sculpt their own imaginary creatures inspired by the Alebrijes created by Pedro Linares Lopez. Pedro Linares Lopez was a Mexican cartoneria artisan who created Papier-mâché figurines that he coined alebrijes after imagining them in a fever dream. Each attendee will walk away from the workshop with their own custom imaginary creature sculpture and basic sculpting knowledge so they can make another at home. We will also explore the cultural importance of Linares’ Alebrijes and how they have become a tradition in Mexico, and even inspired a yearly giant float parade in Mexico City!
